CO₂ reduction in cooperation with our customer Gebrüder Meiser GmbH
The requirements of the end customer were clear: the construction of a new sporting goods store was to significantly reduce its carbon footprint. As part of this project, Gebrüder Meiser GmbH, based in Schmelz (Germany), was responsible for supplying steel gratings—with the same goal of substantially lowering CO₂ emissions.
The solution: S‑PURE+ by Saarstahl
Saarstahl already offers steel with significantly reduced CO₂ emissions produced using the electric arc furnace (EAF) process and recycled materials: S-PURE+
The EAF site Saarstahl Ascoval currently supplies semi‑finished material for the rail, wire rod, and bar product ranges, combining Saarstahl’s proven high quality with a reduced carbon footprint. For this project as well, semi‑finished material from the EAF site Saarstahl Ascoval was used and further processed into wire rod at Saarstahl.
As a result, the CO₂ footprint can be reduced by around 70%, corresponding to a reduction of approximately 1.7 kg CO₂‑eq. per kilogram of wire rod, compared with the blast furnace route.
