Sustainably good – Saarstahl's corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy scores again with EcoVadis

The internationally recognized provider of sustainability assessments EcoVadis has once again honored Saarstahl for its CSR management. The company was awarded the Gold medal this year with the same number of points as last year (78) and is ranked among the top 5% of companies assessed by EcoVadis in the “Production of hot metal and steel” sector. The certification is valid until July 2025.

“This rating is a great confirmation of our traditionally high level of corporate responsibility as well as the comprehensive corporate restructuring currently underway as part of our transformation project aimed at producing up to 3.5 million tons of carbon-neutral steel per year starting in 2027/2028,” explained Chief Commercial Officer Danny van der Hout. “This shows us, our customers and partners that this bold decision has put us on the right track toward ensuring we are operating in a way that will also be viable for our grandchildren.”

The EcoVadis assessment is conducted annually and is one of the best-known sustainability ratings internationally. The excellent rating documents the consistently high quality of Saarstahl’s sustainability management and highlights the steel producer’s firm position within the industry as a company that operates sustainably and responsibly.

The EcoVadis assessment is based on a defined scorecard. This includes the criteria of the Global Reporting Initiative, the United Nations Global Compact, and the International Organization for Standardization for the areas of environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. The definition of specific evaluation criteria enables worldwide comparison of companies certified by EcoVadis.
