Research and Development

The Research and Development department at Saarstahl optimizes existing processes and products and also develops new processes and concepts. Driven by the requirements and creativity of our customers, we are motivated to push the limits of what is possible. We therefore work closely with all our production facilities at Saarstahl AG, are in close contact with our colleagues in Sales, Marketing and Quality Management, and exchange experiences with our suppliers. First and foremost we incorporate the requests, experiences and suggestions of our customers into the product and process developments. As a result, the R&D department represents the entire process chain at Saarstahl – from optimizing steel grades in coordination with our customers, developments and improvements made at the steelmaking plant (liquid metallurgy and continuous casting), the rolling mills and downstream aggregates (product optimization and process simulation), through to processing at our subsidiaries (process optimization, etc.). We are focused on current issues such as e-mobility, hydrogen transport, carbon-neutral steel production, sustainability and digitalization.
