Saarstahl is a company with worldwide operations and which keeps the entire value chain in mind with respect to production. Our services are always tailored to the requirements of our customers. Long products from Saarstahl can be found wherever especially high requirements are placed on quality, load-bearing capacity and reliability: in the latest applications in electric mobility or track systems for high-speed trains, in wind turbines, power plants, ships and bridges, and in construction systems, mechanical engineering and production plants. Our product portfolio includes the manufacture of wire rod, bar steel and semi-finished products in a variety of qualities and for a wide range of technical applications. The product range also includes drawn wire, bright steel, high-quality open-die forged components and rail products.

Production facilities include an LD steelmaking plant, a rolling mill and a forge at the Völklingen site, and a rolling mill at the Neunkirchen site as well as at the Burbach site. The upstream coke and hot metal production is carried out with the Aktien-Gesellschaft der Dillinger Hüttenwerke (Dillinger Hütte) through the joint subsidiaries Zentralkokerei Saar GmbH (ZKS) and ROGESA Roheisengesellschaft Saar mbH (ROGESA). The Group also has production sites in France, including the Saarstahl Ascoval electric steel plant in Saint-Saulve. This has already enabled us to offer our customers highly carbon-reduced steel.

Zentralkokerei Saar (ZKS) produces blast furnace coke in Dillingen for the joint production of hot metal for the whole of Saarland’s steel industry. It produces continuously with two coke batteries and a total capacity of around 1.3 million tons of coke per year. Following the modernization measures completed in 2012, it is now one of the most advanced and environmentally friendly coking plants in the world. The shareholders of ZKS, which was founded in January 1982, are Saarstahl AG and AG der Dillinger Hüttenwerke, with each holding 50 percent of the shares. ZKS has no employees of its own. The staff required to operate the plant is provided by Dillinger.

ROGESA Roheisengesellschaft Saar

ROGESA Roheisengesellschaft Saar produces up to 4.6 million tons of hot metal per year in Dillingen exclusively for the two shareholders Saarstahl AG and AG der Dillinger Hüttenwerke (each with a 50 percent stake). Blast furnace slag and slag sand are further products from ROGESA. It operates two blast furnaces and so-called upstream production processes such as the sintering plant and the coal grinding plant. Like ZKS, ROGESA is a company without employees of its own. The staff required to operate the plant is provided by Dillinger.

Saarstahl Ascoval

The Saarstahl Ascoval electric steel plant in Saint-Saulve, France, produces continuously cast billets and blooms (round, square and rectangular formats) made of non-alloyed and alloyed steel. It has a capacity of around 500 tons per year. Ascoval has an electric arc furnace (90 tons, 115 MVA), a ladle furnace (15 MVA), a twin-tank VOD system and a four-strand continuous casting line.

Saarstahl Rail

The French site in Hayange has been manufacturing high-quality rail products for 130 years. The products are used in high-speed lines and local transport systems, as well as in heavy-haul transport and for switches and crossings. With an annual production capacity of approx. 350 kt, Saarstahl Rail offers a product portfolio of more than 100 rail profiles that can be supplied in 25 steel types and in lengths of up to 108 meters. Thanks to an established circular economy and the use of steel from the EAF route, the plant is the only one in Europe able to offer carbon-reduced rails.
