Social responsibility
Occupational Safety and Health Protection
The health and safety of employees is a top priority at Saarstahl. Our goal: accident-free operation! We are pursuing this goal persistently and systematically with the use of comprehensive prevention programs. Our integrated management system is regularly audited by internal and external authorities and certified in accordance with ISO 45001.
Saarstahl’s company health management program, in line with the concept for “Stahl Vital” (Vital Steel), goes far beyond what is required by law. This includes a health service, company social counselling, and measures to prevent addiction.
Training and Professional Development
With its state-of-the-art training center, Saarstahl is one of the most important training providers in the region. For many years, the company has relied on its own strong pool of young skilled employees. Saarstahl apprentices regularly complete their training as the best in the state, or even the best in Germany.
To enhance their options for professional development, employees have access to a wide range of career training programs. The focal points here: Digitalization/Industry 4.0, lean and shop floor management, and issues such as diversity, which is a special focus for Saarstahl.
Our talent management program identifies especially high-performing and high-potential employees, and targets them for promotion and development to take on responsible management positions.
Attractive Remuneration and Additional Benefits
For us, sustainability doesn’t end with remuneration. The framework wage and salary agreement, in addition to the general collective agreement, governs the remuneration of employees of Saarland’s steel industry. In addition to the attractive and secure remuneration, Saarstahl makes an important contribution to the retirement benefits for its employees with a company pension co-financed by the company, and the offer of gross deferred compensation. Also sponsored by the company: a company disability insurance policy designed specifically for the SHS Group with favorable collective conditions. In addition, the company has taken out collective daily sickness allowance insurance with a specialist physician service for all employees. Employees are furthermore granted discounts at local businesses (car hire, fitness studios, DIY stores, etc.).
Family-friendly Company
Saarstahl is a family-friendly company. This is demonstrated by the “Family-friendly company” seal of quality awarded to us by the saaris business development agency – but more importantly, it is demonstrated by our services that promote a better work-life balance. These services include the “Stahlsternchen” (Little Steel Stars) daycare center near the company, initiated and financially supported by Saarstahl, as well as opportunities for mobile working, payment of an allowance for child sick pay, and comprehensive counselling on childcare and care support.
Social Responsibility
Saarstahl lives in, with, and for its region. First, as a major economic factor: together with its “sister” company Dillinger, Saarstahl accounts for around 15 percent of the total turnover of the manufacturing industry in Saarland. In addition, the company has for many years supported specific projects and events in the (greater) region, as well as in the communities surrounding the respective company sites. Saarstahl is involved in activities ranging from the Max Ophüls Film Festival to the Völklingen Tafel food bank, and encompassing the areas of culture, social affairs, education and sport – with a special focus on supporting children and young people.
