Fast and precise help: Dillinger and Saarstahl support repair of the Müden Moselle lock

Following the maritime accident in December, the Moselle lock in Müden has now been reopened for regular shipping traffic after just two months of repairs. The lock has now been officially reopened after the new lock gate was successfully installed.

Work on the lock was completed in record time, almost two months ahead of the originally planned deadline. Saar Stahlbau GmbH and Saar Industrietechnik GmbH, both subsidiaries of Saarstahl AG and Aktien-Gesellschaft der Dillinger Hüttenwerke (Dillinger), played a significant role in the work, having manufactured several parts required for the repairs within a very short space of time. The parts included four gate anchors that hold the anchor collar rods of the gate doors, two cardan frames that support the cylinders that enable the gate doors to move, and two turning column stops that ensure the watertight seal between the gate doors and the lock wall.

“We have significantly accelerated the repair work thanks to our highly motivated workforce and our combined expertise. This meant that the damage to the lock could be repaired much earlier and the impact on the economy minimized. This cooperation is proof of the cohesion and efficiency of everyone involved in the aid project,” said Jonathan Weber, Chief Transformation Officer at Dillinger and Saarstahl, who thanked everyone involved for their efforts.
